In my previous post I gave you an overview of ebay affiliate marketing and shared some of the sites I have put together. This post will focus on what components you need to have in place before flipping the switch and making your site live.

This is my formula for setting up my niche websites in less than one hour, driving traffic to my websites very rapidly and getting listings displayed in a timely manner.

I have had many people asking exactly how I put my sites together. I’m going to write this post under the assumption that someone brand new to the ebay affiliate program has stumbled across it. If you are experienced with the program already and need to know how to fine tune your site for more success, this is for you as well, but you may need to skip to the appropriate place.

This is #2 in a series of posts that describe how I quickly and painlessly set up my niche websites. In posts following this I will get into the fine details of site setup. Due to the amount of information that goes into how this is setup, I am breaking it up into multiple posts. The Nitty Gritty

Ebay Partner Network

Ok, do get his thing kicked off, you will need to sign up for the Ebay Partner Network. Signing up is a piece of cake and you can get a response back and be ready to go quickly.

While you are waiting for your response, you can begin getting the tools in place that you need for your website.

Keyword enriched domain name

Next, you need a domain name for your website. My advice to you, from experience, is to try to find a domain name that includes keywords that are relevant to your niche. CheerfulDomains.com is a great place to buy domain names.

You can also purchase incredibly reliable web hosting at CheerfulDomains.com. I set up MANY ebay niche websites. I use a new domain name and a new install of Wordpress for each. Wordpress Plugins

Plugins are where the magic happens.

PageMash
The WordPress plugin PageMash helps you to categorize your pages in any way that you like. You can create directories and sub-directories of products or pages on your niche sites.

Google XML Sitemap
The Google XML Sitemap plugin is an invaluable resource to have when setting these sites up. With it, whenever you post a new page on your site, it will instantly notify Google, Yahoo, MSN and ASK and their spiders are all over your site. This helps to get new pages indexed quickly.

Google Analytics
Another critical tool to have is the Google Analytics plugin. If you do not have a Google Analytics account, be sure to sign up at www.google.com/analytics. This is a free service and offers you incredible incite into who is visiting your sites, for how long, how they got there, etc.

The mother of all plugins

Do you value your time at all? Do you enjoy spending countless hours trying to get something to work that should be very simple? Guess what… I spent many many hours trying to get ebay RSS feeds to work on my WordPress sites. Then, I came across this! This IS THE BEST purchase I have made this year. Apple MacBook Pro vs. Dell Inspiron 1100

I use a Dell Inspiron 1100 to do many of my blog posts while I’m in bed. It’s handy to have it hooked up to the wireless network in my house and be able to blog from anywhere. I’ve had this computer for about 4 years now. It has been nice and I’ve had no reason to upgrade until now.

Hovercraft ready for takeoff.

I’ve dealt with the fact that the Inspiron sounds like a hovercraft getting ready to take off from my lap. The fan has to kick into overdrive just to keep the thing cool.

Last night I was able to use an Apple MacBook Pro to submit my last blog post. What a freaking dream machine! My wife was using the hovercraft and my brother-in-law had left his MacBook Pro at our house. He has urged me to use it anytime I can. I’m now convinced he works for Apple and gets a commission when he gets people like me to use their products, fall in love and get one for myself.

I want to marry the Apple MacBook Pro.

This Apple MacBook Pro is simply amazing! First of all it’s super lightweight. It felt like having a spiral notebook sitting on my lap. Secondly, it emitted hardly any heat. When the Inspiron sits on your lap you end up with deep indentions from the sheer weight of the thing in addition to feeling like you had a frying pan sitting there. Another key feature amidst all the amazing features of this machine is the battery life. I usually spend a good hour writing my posts. When I was finished and I got my post all submitted where I wanted it the score was:
Dell Inspiron 1100 - 0% battery life and completely shut down. (My wife was in the middle of a Facebook post and it died on her)

Apple MacBook Pro - 3 hours to go on the battery! I must say it was a relief to not hear the damn fan blowing anymore! There’s something that makes you a little anxious when you think your computer is about to explode.

The Apple MacBook Pro is a bloggers dream machine. I’m a website and graphic designer and it’s a freaking dream come true if that is your job as well.

Using the Apple MacBook Pro after using a Dell Inspiron 1100 after the last 5 years is like being outside in the heat after a few hours and being used to it even though uncomfortable, then walking into a nice air conditioned, low humidity room. Basically, I don’t want to go back into the heat! Apple is like a drug dealer and all of their amazing products like the MacBook Pro are highly addictive.

I’ve been a PC guy until now. My start was in programming and database stuff. Now that I’m more into design, the MacBook Pro is where I want to go. I’ve researched where to get a great deal on one. Amazon and users on ebay are offering pretty nice deals.

It kills me to think of how long I have gone not using email marketing campaigns to keep my clients and followers informed. Tons of affiliate marketers, blog producers, web producers, business owners, basically anyone with a web presence or that think they have a web presence put a website or blog out their and basically hope that people come to it and keep coming to it. Hey, I was one of you.

I am a statistics junkie. I look at web analytics all day long trying to keep up on search terms being used and looking for different trends. AWeber is FULL of incredible analytics tools that tell you what percentage of your emails were opened, if links were clicked in your emails, if you had subscribers from your blog or website.

A CRITICAL tool to have.

When someone signs up to follow you, you know that they trust you and they have respect for you and what you have to say. NEVER abuse this by selling or misusing the emails that you collect! They know by now that I do not misuse their information, but I DO keep them updated with valuable reviews on tools or of techniques that I use to be more successful when trying to earn more money at home.

This is Article #1 in a series discussing how to build your website or blog the right way to make sure you get adequate traffic and make sure you are getting paid!

I’m sure you have heard the equation Traffic = Revenue.

This is true. You can’t earn revenue without driving to your website. What many marketers don’t realize is they need to drive targeted traffic to increase revenue. Many marketers try to join every directory and optimize their site or blog for every single possible search term they can get. The problem with this is the traffic is not targeted. Although your stats may look good, they are going to bloated with irrelevant, untargeted traffic.

What traffic is the right traffic?

Good question. The answer is: What client is going to pay you for your product or service? What client will click on a Google Adsense ad? The answer is someone coming to the site for the right reasons. Lets say you have a blog talking about the latest Wii games. It would make sense to write your blog posts to make sure the traffic that comes in is relevant to gaming. If your posts are optimized for cooking or web design, inadvertantly, you are going to get traffic, but it will be likely the visitors will not click your affiliate links.

Get a good stats or analytics package.

It’s important to know what traffic is coming to your site. Make sure you have an adequate statistics package on your server backend so you can see who is coming to your site and how long they are staying. Google Analytics is a free service that offers very comprehensive statistics. If you have a Wordpress blog or website, you can use a nice Wordpress Statistics plugin that is offered through the plugins section of the site.

Wordpress is a Godsend. The ease of installing a Wordpress site and getting it live for the world to see is simply amazing… or amazingly simple!

Wordpress was designed with bloggers in mind. If you have something to say and want to tell the world right away, use Wordpress. You can also use Wordpress as a CMS and create a very easy to update website using it.

Choose your flavor.

Wordpress comes in two flavors: The Wordpress hosted version or the Wordpress self-hosted version. The pros of the Wordpress hosted version are it’s very easy to start blogging right away. There are no domains or hosting to set up. The cons are you cannot set up Google Adsense on the Wordpress hosted version and there are limitations to how customized your site can be.

Now, the Wordpress self-hosted version. This has been a dream come true for me. I have been building websites for a long time using Dreamweaver. I then, learned how to use PHP to make the pages more dynamic. This was nice because I could make reoccuring elements like the header or page navigation an include file, so it didn’t have to be recoded in each and every page. The Wordpress self hosted version allows you complete flexibility over how your blog or website looks and functions. I will get into more advanced site customization techniques in following posts. More now on the Wordpress plugins.

Plugins of all shapes and sizes.

The Wordpress community has come up with incredible plugins that add some great features to an already great platform. The plugins are used to enhance your website or blog. This is my review of my top 5 favorite plugins that help me to get my blogs or websites up and running very quickly.

1) Google XML Sitemaps - This is one of the most popular plugins for Wordpress and for good reason. One very critical way to keep Google indexing your site and making sure your site can be seen by search engines is by maintaining a site map. I used to spend hours maintaining site maps for all of my own sites in addition to my clients sites. Now, with this plugin, the updating is automatic. The best feature of this plugin is the fact that it will notify Google, Yahoo, ASK and MSN that a new site map is out there and their bots are all over your site in no time.

2) All in One SEO Pack - This is another brilliant plug in that has saved the blogging and website building community thousands of hours in search engine optimization efforts. This plugin automatically generates meta tags and optimize titles for you. You can also override the auto setting and create your own meta tags and titles. I love this plugin and sometimes give it the #1 spot over the sitemap generator.

3) pageMash - This plugin makes ordering the pages you create in Wordpress super simple. If you want to bump one page to the top of your page list or make a page become a sub page of another page, this is the plugin for you. The sleek interface allows you to drag-and-drop the pages into place, push a button and make the changes live. Again, a huge timesaving plugin.

4) MultiFeedSnap - I searched FOREVER trying to find an easy-to-use RSS feed aggregator. I came upon MultiFeedSnap and life got much easier. As the name implies, MultiFeedSnap allows you to post multiple feeds to your blog in a snap. This feature has helped me greatly improve my SEO rankings and traffic for many of my Ebay niche stores.

5) Share This - This is the coolest way to let your readers share your content with others. This one probably belongs higher up on my list. You can register with Share This and they show you some pretty cool stats about which bookmarking sites get clicked in addition to some other useful stats.
